I live in SC and am considering a home security system from either Brinks, ADT, or Vector. I'm looking for feedback either good or bad about those companies. Or if you know of any others nationwide. Thanks.

HOW TO INSTALL A CHEAP HOME SECURITY SYSTEM
1. Go to a secondhand store and buy a pair of men's used work boots, size 14-16.
2. Place them on your front porch, along with a copy of Guns and Ammo and NRA magazines.
3. Put a giant dog dish next to the boots and magazines.
4. Leave a note on your door that reads: "Hey Bubba: Big Mike, Slim, Tiny and I went for more ammo. Back in an hour. Don't mess with the Pit bulls. They attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up pretty bad. I don't think Killer took part in it, but I locked all four of them in the house. Better wait outside”
Last night while we were away from home, the security alarm went off in one room of our home. The alarm company said motion was detected in a room - but not at the doors, windows etc. When we returned this morning, nothing was disturbed and there was no evidence anyone had been in the room or anyplace else in the house. Does anyone out there have any ideas what could have caused this? I am a little spooked and would like to know if anyone else has had a similar experience. Any professionals out there with any ideas? Please no jokes about ghosts etc. - serious answers only. Thanks!
i have no choice but to live in a town that has alot of robbery and vandalism , i thought bout locking all the gates with a pad lock at night, buying security cameras, and we have two dogs that are very protective, but we seem to get robbed by people i know my dogs never attack someone once i let them know its okay for them to be in the house so therefor if my dogs are home and im not home and they come to the house my dogs wont attack, what are the best places to buy security cameras , isnt there something i can buy to put on all the windows and doors that causes it to alarm once opened , im not talking bout an alarm system dont have enough money for that but more like sensors or something

I had a sales rep offer me free installation and equipment. He said there was no upfront cost, only paying the monthly payment. I was quoted $39 a month plus tax which comes to about $44 a month. I live in a townhome and was told I would be able to get at least 10% off my personal property insurance because of the home security. Does this sound like a good deal? How's the quality of Firstline compared to ADT or Brinks? Are they reliable. I'm located in Minnesota and seem not to have a local office. Should I be worried if something were to happen with no technicans to come fix it asap?

Are home security alarms necessary in apartment buildings. We own our condo and were considering installing a home security alarm. What do home security alarms do, what are they capable of ? Is it worth paying $ 30 a month for an alarm ? Is Brinks a good name in the alarm industry. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas.

I know the major alarm company would not monitor the home if you quit paying the bill or cancel service, but I think the actual sensors which are installed along with the in home hidden siren would still work. I'm asking this because the city in which I live does not send the police anymore to a home where the home security alarm has gone off. A rent a cop will be sent instead to the home, and then, if they see the house has been broken into, they call the real police. By that time your entire home could be cleaned out.
My boss just moved into a home with a DSC Security System. He wants me to find out how to activate it, etc. I don't know anything about home security systems. Does he need to open an account with a security company? How do DSC systems work. I suppose it may depend on the model.
